Reach

REACH Compliancy is a European Union regulation adopted to better protect human health and the environment from the potential risk of chemical substances. At the same time, REACH aims to provide the competitiveness of the EU chemical industry.

In principle, REACH applies to all chemicals; not only substances used in industrial processes, but also those used in our daily lives. For example, think of cleaning products, paint and other objects such as clothing, furniture and electrical appliances. The regulation affects most companies in the EU.

REACH places the burden of proof on the companies. In order to comply with the regulation, companies must identify and manage the risks associated with the substances they manufacture or place on the EU market. They must demonstrate to ECHA how to use the substance safely and they must communicate the risk mitigation measures to users. If risks are not controlled, authorities can limit the use of substances in various ways. In the long term, the most dangerous substances must be replaced by less dangerous ones.
